Lyric Love :: Blue Jeans

19 Jul

Lana Del Rey makes me want to start wearing false eyelashes on the reg. Some would call her a hack… a product of the over produced music scene. I mean, just look at her lips. But nonetheless, I love her. I love her style and I want her hair for my very own!! Plus, I think her voice is quite haunting… and I like that. So here’s one of my favorites from her.

blue jeans, white shirt
walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn
it was like James Dean, for sure
you so fresh to death & sick as ca-cancer
you were sorta punk rock, i grew up on hip hop
but you fit me better than my favorite sweater, and i know
that love is mean, and love hurts
but I still remember that day we met in December, oh baby!

i will love you till the end of time
i would wait a million years
promise you’ll remember that you’re mine
baby can you see through the tears?
love you more
than those bitches before
say you’ll remember, oh baby, say you’ll remember
i will love you till the end of time

big dreams, gangster
said you had to leave to start your life over
i was like: “no please, stay here,”
we don’t need no money we can make it all work
but he headed out on Sunday, said he’d come home Monday
i stayed up waitin’, anticipatin’ and pacin’ but he was
chasing paper
“caught up in the game” that was the last i heard

i will love you till the end of time
i would wait a million years
promise you’ll remember that you’re mine
baby can you see through the tears?
love you more
than those bitches before
say you’ll remember, oh baby, say you’ll remember
i will love you till the end of time

you went out every night
and baby that’s alright
i told you that no matter what you did i’d be by your side
cause i’ma ride or die
whether you fail or fly
Well shit, at least you tried.
but when you walked out that door, a piece of me died
i told you i wanted more-but that not what I had in mind
i just want it like before
we were dancin’ all night
then they took you away- stole you out of my life
you just need to remember…

i will love you till the end of time
i would wait a million years
promise you’ll remember that you’re mine
baby can you see through the tears?
love you more
than those bitches before
say you’ll remember, oh baby, say you’ll remember
i will love you till the end of time

Lyric Love :: Freedom at 21

26 Apr

Jack White’s solo album Blunderbuss is FINALLY out and man-oh-man do I love it. While it’s been hard to nail down an actual favorite I think I’ve finally settled on Freedom at 21. He played it live when I saw him a few months ago and it JAMMED so hard, I kind of fell in love with it then. But now that I’ve had a chance to hear the studio version, as well as a couple of live versions… it’s pretty much a done deal. Freedom at 21 is my fuckin JAM.

cut off the bottoms of my feet
make me walk on salt
take me down to the police
charge me with assault
a smile on her face
she does what she wants to me

that’s right and
she don’t care what kind of wounds she’s inflicted on me
she don’t care what color bruises that she’s leavin’ on me
cus she’s got freedom in the 21st century

two black gadgets in her hands
all she thinks about
no responsibility no guilt or morals
cloud of judgement
smile on her face
she does what she damn well please

and she don’t care about the things people used to do
she don’t care that what she does has an effect on you
she’s got freedom in the 21st century

cut off the bottoms of my feet… cut off the bottoms of my feet
make me walk on salt… make me walk on salt
take me down to the police… take me down to the police

I’m in LOVE.

It’s true. Over the weekend, a friend of mine MADE me listen to the very wonderful Susan Tedeschi. he was blown away that I’d never checked out any of her stuff… so while we were sitting around the fire on Sunday he pulled this tune up on Youtube.  And that was it. Love at first listen. It’s like Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt had musical baby! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Susan Tedeschi – Hurt So Bad

I miss the arms that used to hold me
The tender way we used to kiss
I miss the way that you touch me
I miss the sweet taste of your lips

I was a fool to ever leave you
You were a fool to let me go
Oh it’s so lonesome, lonesome here with out you
Oh how I miss you so

It hurt… it hurt… it hurt so bad
You were the best man I ever had
Why was I so blind to see?
Now the biggest fool is me

I miss the arms that used to hold me
The tender way we used to kiss
Ooo… yes… ooo… I miss the way that you touch me
I miss the sweet taste of your lips

It hurt… it hurt… it hurt so bad
‘Cause ooo you were the best man I ever, ever, ever had
Why was I so blind to see
And now the biggest fool is me

Oh Oh what a fool I was darlin’… yes…
And oh you were a fool to let… let me go… why did you let me go?
It’s so lonesome here with out you
Oh how I miss you so

Oh Oh now yes
Don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it oh lord no!
I miss you oh yeah!
Come back Oh! come back to me, yes
Oh how I miss you
Oh I miss you so
Oh Oh Lordy, Lordy, Lordy Oooo……..
Don’t do it, Oh! Come on baby Come back to me
Oh how I miss you so
How I miss you so
Oh,oh,oh,ooooo….Lord now
Oh I miss you baby

Lyric Love – What I Wouldn’t Do

6 Mar

This song is just so lovely… I’ve had it on repeat for days. PLUS, I have a total girl crush on Alison Sudol. I mean, look at her hair!! How could I not?! Anyway, this one is “What I Wouldn’t Do” from the magical A Fine Frenzy

If we were children I would bake you a mud pie
Warm and brown beneath the sun
Never learned to climb a tree but I would try
Just to show you what I’d done

Oh what I wouldn’t do
If I had you, babe, I had you
Oh what I wouldn’t do
If I had you, babe

If I were old, my dearest, you would be older
But I would crawl upon your lap
Wrap a blanket round our frail little shoulders
And I’d die happily like that

Oh what I wouldn’t do
If I had you, babe, I had you
Oh what I wouldn’t do
If I had you, babe, if I had you

So lace your hands round the small of my back and I will kiss you like a king
I will be your bride, I’ll keep you warm at night
I will sing, I will sing

It was now and we were both in the same place
Didn’t know how to say the words
With my heart ticking like a bomb in a birdcage
I left before someone got hurt

‘Cause it was what I wouldn’t do
I had you, babe, I had you
It was what I wouldn’t do
When I had you, babe, when I had you

Lyric Love :: Pumped Up Kicks

21 Sep

robert’s got a quick hand
he’ll look around the room
he won’t tell you his plan
he’s got a rolled cigarette hanging out his mouth
he’s a cowboy kid
yeah, he found a six-shooter gun
in his dad’s closet hidden in a box of fun things
and i don’t even know what
but he’s coming for you, yeah, he’s coming for you

all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, outrun my gun
all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, faster than my bullet

daddy works a long day
he be coming home late, yeah, he’s coming home late
and he’s bringing me a surprise
because dinner’s in the kitchen and it’s packed in ice
i’ve waited for a long time
yeah, the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
i reason with my cigarette
and say your hair’s on fire
you must have lost your wits, yeah

all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, outrun my gun
all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, faster than my bullet

all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, outrun my gun
all the other kids with the pumped up kicks
you’d better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Lyric Love :: Our Deal

11 Aug

Today’s lyric love comes from Best Coast… I’m not going to lie. I had never heard of them until reading this post at Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno. I instantly fell in love with the video… the concept, the styling, the gang violence… be still my heart!! AND it was directed by the fabulous Drew Barrymore, that girl just gets it! After watching the video sixty-two times, I downloaded the album and I have to say… it’s pretty awesome. It isn’t the type of sound I usually gravitate towards but it’s so mellow and cool, I can’t help but love it! I think I need to own it on vinyl, seems like the perfect album for some end of summer nights.

when you leave me
the bed is empty
and i feel crazy
cause i didnt say anything

i wish you would tell me
how you really feel
but you’ll never tell me
cause that’s not our deal

when you leave me
you take away everything
you take all my money
you take all my weed

i wish you would tell me
how you really feel
but you’ll never tell me
cause that’s not our deal

i wish you would tell me
how you really feel
but you’ll never tell me
cause that’s not our deal

that’s your deal
that’s not my deal

Lyric Love :: Life is Sweet

28 Jul

It’s about 12:29 a.m. on a Thursday morning and I can’t stop listening to this song. It’s by the FANTASTIC Natalie Merchant and it’s titled “Life is Sweet”. Take from it what you will, but to me it’s about overcoming the sometimes crappy side of life and finding the silver lining. In short… BE HAPPY!! Sometimes it’s nice to have a beautiful reminder.. even if it does come in the wee hours of the morning. Enjoy.

it’s a pity
it’s a crying shame
who pulled you down again?
how painful it must be
to bruise so easily inside

it’s a pity
it’s a downright crime
but it happens all the time
you wanna stay little daddy’s girl
wanna hide from the vicious world outside

but don’t cry
know the tears’ll do no good
so dry your eyes

your daddy he’s the iron man
a battleship wrecked on dry land
your mama she’s a bitter bride
she’ll never be satisfied,
and you know
that’s not right

but don’t cry
know the tears’ll do no good
so dry your eyes

they told you life is hard
it’s misery from the start
it’s dull and slow and painful

i tell you life is sweet
in spite of the misery
there’s so much more
be grateful

who do you believe?
who will you listen to
who will it be?
it’s high time that you decide
in your own mind

tried to comfort you
tried to tell you to be patient
they are blind
they can’t see

fortune gonna come some day
all gonna fade away
your daddy the war machine and
your mama the long and suffering
prisoner of what she can not see

they told you life is hard
it’s misery from the start
it’s dull and slow and painful

i tell you life is sweet
in spite of the misery
there’s so much more
be grateful

who do you believe?
who will you listen to
who will it be?

it’s high time you decide
it’s time you make up your own sweet little mind

they told you life is long
be thankful when it’s done
don’t ask for more
you should be grateful

but I tell you life is short
be thankful because before you know
it will be over
